We are seeking School Nurses for an available contract opportunity at the Birmingham Board of Education.

Available Position(s): School Registered Nurse (RN) and Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN).

Place of Performance: Birmingham Board of Education located in Birmingham, AL 35203.

District Information: The Birmingham City Schools District is located in Birmingham, Alabama and currently has 44 schools comprised of 18 elementary schools, 10 K-8 schools, 8 middle schools, 7 high schools and 1 alternative school. The District provides educational services to a diverse student population of approximately 25,000 students from Pre-K through High School.

Scope of Work:
Provide Nursing Services to the District. The services include substitute nurses, nurses for field trips, after school activities, related services and/or transportation.
Provide on staff a Director of Nurses/Nurse Supervisor as a direct point of contact for BCS’ Child Health Department.
Provide medical treatment customary for RNs and LPNs to students and/or staff in the event of an emergency.
Plan and implement treatment based on physicians’ orders.
Follow the Individual Health Plan, Individual Education Plan or Section 504 Plan written by the school nurse, IEP Team or 504 Team.
Consult with student’s physician as necessary.
Maintain nursing notes (documentation) on every person to whom care is provided.
Provide documentation of care to parent and/or guardian.
 Document medication administration and/or healthcare procedures.
Provide monthly reports to Lead Nurse Supervisor.  Maintain all written records in appropriate location that are relative to students.

RNs and LPNs must have a current Alabama License.
RNs and LPNs must be certified in First Aid and CPR.
RNs must have pediatric ventilator care experience.
RNs and LPNs must have pediatric experience.
RNs and LPNs must be flexible to accommodate assignment changes.
RNs and LPNs must contact the Lead Nurse Supervisor or designated person if sick or absent from work.
RNs and LPNs will not be paid for days designated as non-school days, holidays, inclement weather days or sick days.
RNs and LPNs must be willing to travel from school to school with no mileage reimbursement.
RNs and LPNs must report changes in student health status to the Lead Nurse Supervisor.
RNs and LPNs must be available to ride buses with special needs students to and from school.
