GHG is looking for a Dental Hygienist to provide services for the inmates housed at the Federal Correctional Institution (FCI) and Federal Prison Camp (FPC), Ashland, located in Ashland, KY.
Available Position: Dental Hygienist

Place of Performance: Services will be performed on-site in the Health Services Department at the FCI Ashland located at State Route 716, Ashland, Kentucky, 41105.
Facility Information: The Federal Correctional Institution (FCI) Ashland is a low security institution housing male inmates with a satellite camp that houses minimum security inmates. The facility is located in the highlands of northeastern Kentucky, 125 miles east of Lexington and 5 miles southwest of Ashland.

Work Schedule: The contractor will normally work Monday through Friday (except Federal holidays), normally between the hours of 7:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., with a 30 minute unpaid lunch period. One (1) session will equal one (1) hour. The facility is expected to require an average of 6 sessions per day. The Dental Hygienist hours may be adjusted to meet the needs of the institution. The contractor shall not normally exceed 30 hours per week.
Period of Performance: 60 months, upon acceptable performance and all necessary state reviews and approvals.

Description of Services (includes but it is not limited to): 
All duties shall be performed in accordance with standards and methods generally accepted within the field of Dental Hygienist Services, and compliance with all Federal and State policy and regulations. The contractor shall adhere to all standards and regulations associated with the Joint Commission (JC) and American Correctional Association Foundation/Core Standards for Adult Correctional Institutions and Bureau of Prison policies. The manner and method of performance are the sole responsibility and within the sole discretion of the Contractor, provided, the Contractor performs the services in accordance with standards and practices consistent with those in the community. The contractor’s performance shall be monitored by the COR. The contractor must be able to work with an inmate population from a variety of cultural, regional, racial and ethnic backgrounds. 

The Contractor will generally work under the supervision of the staff Dentist; however, may be required to work under the supervision of the Clinical Director or a BOP mid-level practitioner. 
  • Provide dental prophylaxis on inmates who are referred by the dental staff
  • Provide thorough individualized oral hygiene instructions to each patient
  • Monitor oral hygiene and periodontal condition on each patient seen for dental prophylaxis
  • Complete necessary dental x-rays as specified by the dentist
  • Sterilize instruments used for prophylaxis and other instruments as specified by the dental staff
  • Perform necessary paperwork related to scheduling patients for dental prophylaxis as directed by the dental staff.
Position Requirements/Qualifications
The individual providing Registered Dental Hygienist services under this contract award must have evidence of licensure and experience as a Registered Dental Hygienist. The Dental Hygienist shall be certified in Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) in accordance with the American Red Cross or the American Heart Association and have a minimum of two (2) years of experience providing Dental Hygienist services. Past correctional experience is desirable, but is not required. The contractor must specifically identify the individual that will be performing these services along with their quote. The candidate’s name and documents supporting their qualifications must accompany their quote (resume, photocopies of certificates and etc.)
Attire: The contractor is expected to wear professional clothing while on duty (scrub uniforms are approved). The attire worn shall also be appropriate for the correctional environment in which the contract employee will be performing. The Contractor is prohibited from wearing khaki or green clothing of any type as this is the color clothing the inmate population wear.
