GHG is looking for a Phlebotomist Technician to provide services for the inmates incarcerated at the Federal Correctional Institution in Milan, Michigan.

Available Position: Phlebotomist Technician - These services will be rendered on‐site for the inmate population incarcerated at the Federal Correctional Institution (FCI) located in Milan, Michigan.

Place of Performance: Services will be performed in the Health Services Department of the FCI, 4004 East Arkona Road, Milan, MI 48160.
Facility Information: The Federal Correctional Institution (FCI) in Milan is a low security facility housing male inmates with a detention center for pretrial and holdover male inmates. FCI Milan is located in southeastern Michigan, 45 miles south of Detroit, 15 miles south of Ann Arbor, and 30 miles north of Toledo, Ohio.

Work Schedule: 
  • 22 to 24 hours per week.
  • The Phlebotomist Technician t will normally work four (4) days per week, 6 hours per day.
  • Workdays will be selected from Monday through Friday between the hours of  7:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., excluding and unpaid half hour for lunch break.
  • Days or scheduled will be selected and could be change or modified as per mutual agreement within the Dental Assistant and the Chief Dental Officer. 
Due to the nature of the correctional setting, delays in performance of work may be expected. Such delays may include, but are not limited to inclement weather, electrical or mechanical problems, or other security matters. 

Period of Performance: Five (5) years (60 months) renewed annually.

Blood drawing procedures (venipuncture/fingerstick) in accordance with established guidelines.
Processing all samples (blood, urine, serum, fecal, DNA, etc.) for testing in accordance with Bureau of Prison (BOP),
Occupational Safety Health Administration (OHSA), and Clinical Laboratory Improvements Amendments, (CLIA), requirements and procedures.
Maintain update and complete documentation/certification of referral centers.
Prepare samples for distribution and mailing to referral centers.
Filing laboratory results in the proper area (logs) and medical records.
Maintain accurate and complete records of all laboratory specimens, (by referral center).
Maintain accurate and complete records of needles and syringes used.
Maintain monthly logs on tests requested (by referral center) and any discrepancies found.            
Knowledge of the different laboratory specimen tubes used for a wide variety of tests    
Proper maintenance and care of equipment available.
Maintain a safe, clean, and secure work area at all times.
Maintain accurate stock record cards on phlebotomist supplies
Maintain constant communication with Laboratories or Referral Centers.  

Uniform requirements: The Phlebotomist must wear appropriate and professional attire at all times (scrub uniforms are approved). The Dental Assistant is prohibited from wearing khaki or green clothing of any type as this is the color clothing the inmate population wear.

Position Requirements/Qualifications

License/Certifications: must possess specialty training and certification as a Medical Assistant or Phlebotomist. 
Education: The Phlebotomist applicant must have completed an accredited phlebotomy or medical assisting training program.
Required experience: Shall have a minimum of one (1) year of experience.
Life saving Certifications: The Phlebotomist must be certified in Basic Cardiac Life Support, in accordance with the American Heart Association (CPR or BLS are acceptable).
