We are seeking Orthopedic Technicians for an available contract opportunity to provide services for the Luke Air Force Base, AZ


Available Position:  Surgical Technologist to support the 56th Medical Treatment Facility at Luke Air Force Base.

Place of Performance: Luke Air Force Base, 7219 N Litchfield Road, Luke AFB, AZ 85309

Work Schedule:  Normal hours of operation are Monday through Friday, 0700-1730 or whatever schedule meets the needs/mission of the MTF not to exceed 40 hours per week.  The total hours of routine clinic service are the equivalent of a 9-hour shift with 60 minutes for unpaid lunch period 8.5 with a 30 minute lunch. The scheduled shifts within this period of coverage will be at the discretion of the Chief of Medical Services, squadron commander (and may be further delegated as deemed necessary). 

Period of performance: date of hire through 07/31/2019 with a six months option period.

Scope of Work: 

 
  1. Receive patients, explain procedures, and provide appropriate care. Correctly position the patient for the examination and make adjustments necessary for the required examination. Determine if any special patient preparation is required.
  2. Operate ultrasound scanners. Operate the linear, sector, and endovaginal probes as well as pulse and color Doppler capabilities of provided scanners.
  3. Receive and interpret requests or instructions for diagnostic ultrasound scans; perform assigned quality control checks of the ultrasound scanners.
  4. Perform a full range of diagnostic ultrasonic examinations including but not limited to:  obstetrical sonography, including imaging of all fetal anatomy in order to obtain accurate dating and growth parameters and evaluate for fetal abnormalities and problems with the pregnancy; pelvic sonography, including imaging of all pelvic anatomy to attain accurate assessment of suspected pathology; and endovaginal sonography exams to obtain accurate assessment of suspected pelvic pathology; abdominal sonography to include all major organs and systems of the abdomen; small parts sonography to include scans of the breast, thyroid and testicles; and limited vascular sonography to include carotid, aortic and lower extremity venous duplex scans.
  5.  Performs numerous complex sonographic scanning on all anatomical areas for in- utero, neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients. Assists radiologist and/or other physicians in performing invasive diagnostic techniques such as biopsies, aspirations and intraoperative localization of lesions, or other similar procedures.
  6.  Identify abnormalities during testing and determine need for additional scans of affected area.
  7.  Recognize anatomic variants and determine which other area(s) of the body should be scanned.
  8.  Use a detailed understanding of diseases of anatomy to accomplish effective ultrasound scanning.
  9.  Advise the physician of results of the examination and provide them with a preliminary diagnosis.
  10.  Notify physician of significant scans requiring immediate attention.
  11.  Maintain and clean ultrasound equipment on a regular basis in accordance with department standards.
  12.  Stock and maintain an adequate level of supplies required to ultrasound examinations.
  13.  Recommend necessary repairs when diagnostic quality is degraded.
  14.  Make minor adjustments on equipment. Differentiate artifacts from normal or pathological processes and recognize electronic equipment limitations. Program the examination equipment, set up the machine and scanning techniques to be employed.
 
Qualifications
  1. Current registration as a Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) or American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).
  2. A minimum of 1 year of full-time experience within the last 2 years in a setting corresponding to the requirements of the task order.
