We are seeking experienced Pharmacy Technicians for an available contract opportunity to provide services on-site for the inmate population at The Federal Correctional Institution (FCI) in Tucson, AZ.
 
Available Position(s): Pharmacy Technician - 2 positions

Work Schedule: The facility is expected to require an average of 40 hours per week. An anticipated schedule for the provision of Pharmacy Technician services is Monday through Friday between 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., excluding Federal holidays. (The anticipated schedule includes a 30 minute non-paid lunch break.)
 
Period of Performance: Until 9/30/2024

Work to be performed at:  Services will be performed in the Health Services Unit at the United States Penitentiary located at 9300 S. Wilmot Rd, Tucson, AZ, 85756, Federal Correctional Institution located at 8901 S. Wilmot Rd, Tucson, AZ, 85756, and the Satellite Prison Camp located at 9300 S. Wilmot Rd, Tucson, AZ, 85756

Facility Information: The Federal Correctional Institution (FCI) Tucson is a medium security facility housing male inmates with an administrative facility for male and female offenders. This institution is part of the Federal Correctional Complex (FCC), Tucson. FCI Tucson is located in southern Arizona, 10 miles southeast of the city of Tucson, near Interstate 10 and Wilmot Road.
 
Description of Services:
Reading and interpreting prescriptions and medication orders written by medical staff, selection and retrieval of medications of correct strength and dosage from prescribed, transcribing prescription data to labels using typewriters or computer systems, preparing prescriptions for review by a BOP/Public Health Service (PHS) Pharmacist prior to dispensing, and giving pertinent patient instructions when appropriate. The contractor will not fill issue and/or deal in any way with DEA controlled substances. The Contractor will assist the Pharmacist in ensuring the only medications listed in the approved BOP Formulary are dispensed and will ensure that request for Non-Formulary medications are initiated and submitted to the Pharmacist for approval. The Contractor should be proficient in maintaining adequate inventories of all medications and medical supplies and preparing the proper paperwork for replenishment of inventory, as well as maintaining an expiration date log to ensure that no outdated or expired stock remains in the inventory. The Contractor will assist in updating patient education literature, assisting in improvement of performance studies and also assist the Pharmacist in meeting policy guidelines for the inmates.
The Contractor will prepare recommended supply lists to order pharmaceuticals, maintain the pharmacy areas in a clean and orderly fashion, maintain stock of appropriate forms utilized in the pharmacy department, and shall, in the absence of the Pharmacist, maintain the Pharmacy operation, within guidelines governing the duties of the Pharmacy Technician. Prescriptions must be reviewed by a Pharmacist prior to dispensing to the inmate population. The Pharmacy Technician should be able to accurately input a minimum of 25 prescriptions per hour.
Services will be unsupervised, but will be provided in the method as considered normal in the local community and in accordance with AAAHC standards and BOP policies. These services, although unsupervised by the Government, will be monitored and verified by the COR.

Qualifications: 
At a minimum, the Contractor must have a medical/technical background obtained through education or on- the-job training in the Pharmaceutical field and be a high school graduate or equivalent.
The Contractor must have computer and typing skills.
The Contractor must have experience working as a Pharmacy Technician for at least three years or have a certificate of training for Pharmacy Technician services.
College level training in the sciences and mathematics and past correctional experience is desirable, but is not required.
The Contractor shall provide proof of CPR certification and evidence acceptable to the Clinical Director of recent testing for immunity to Tuberculosis or other communicable diseases.
