The United States Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Texas (USAOSDTX) has a requirement for a Security Assistant, at their Houston Texas office. 
Place of Performance: United States Attorney’s Office 1000 Louisiana Street, Suite 2300 Houston, TX 77002

Hours of Operation: Government offices are open from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday thru Friday except Federal holidays or when the Government facility is closed due to local or national emergencies, administrative closings, or similar Government directed facility closings. Contractor’s work hours may vary.

-Initiates pre-employment and reinvestigation background security requests and provides guidance on requirements to applicants, law clerks/interns, contractors, employees, managers or administrative personnel in the District. In this regard, is considered an expert source of information on processing a variety of types of employee suitability investigation procedures and addresses issues or required supporting documentation to facilitate favorable security clearance actions.
- Reviews and evaluates pre-employment security questionnaires and supporting documents in accordance with current standards. When conflicts, omissions or problems are discovered, advises of the deficiency and corrective action or documentation necessary to resolve issues.
- Prepares required documentation for security packages; initiates fingerprints (electronic or ink), credit checks, and background investigations. Determines proper processing requirements based on review and analysis of security level requested. When required, requests sensitive and personal financial or medical documentation from applicants to resolve derogatory or conflicting information. Facilitates a preliminary assessment as to whether applicants should continue to be considered or employed in the U.S. Attorneys' office and provides information to the Human Resources Officer for additional action.
- Uses an automated Office of Personnel Management electronic system for processing SF-86, SF85, SF-85P Electronic Questionnaire for Investigation Processing (e-QIP) for applicants. Sets permissions to allow sponsored candidates to use the system to prepare personnel security forms for applicants and contractors initial background investigations or, when required, reinvestigations of current employees and contractors, who require security updates. Performs reviews and evaluation of information and documents submitted and keeps track of those in progress.
- Controls and safeguards sensitive information collected and used within the personnel security process in accordance with regulatory guidance and local procedures. Maintains working security files on each applicant including information documenting the status of the action during each processing phase, e.g., recording the date the fingerprint and name check request was initiated and cleared, date the background investigation was initiated and scheduled, date the waiver package was submitted to the Executive Office for the United States Attorney’s Offices (EOUSA) and date the waivers were approved, date drug test scheduled and record of the results. Information is documented in the security file and maintained in the appropriate database maintained by the Support Service Section personnel.
- Receives and processes requests for background investigations. Evaluates each submission for accuracy and completeness of documentation, including its conformance to regulations and established procedures. Makes determinations of the correct processing requirements based on review and analysis of the content of each submission. Resolves discrepancies in provided information or situations, which may be unclear or vague by referring to one of several controlling sets of rules, regulations and procedures. Interprets and applies regulatory and procedural requirements regarding background investigations and security clearance processing to include uncommon or complicated requests.
- Produces a variety of recurring and ad hoc reports. Reports typically include information relating to the status of credit checks, fingerprint clearances, background investigations initiated or canceled, and waivers requested; and the weekly security report, which consists of the status and level of background investigations and updates on security clearances/reinvestigations for newly hired employees and current District personnel.

Period of Performance: The period of performance shall be for one (1) Base Year of 12 months and two (2) 12-month option years.

Position Requirements/Qualifications
Must be a U.S. Citizen.
Related experience preferred.
Must meet eligibility requirements Single Scope Background Investigation (SSBI) SF-86 to obtain security clearance to the appropriate level as required by the Department/Agency.
