We are seeking a qualified Medical Technologist, for an available contract opportunity for the Laboratory Department at the Cheyenne River Health Center located in Eagle Butte, SD 57625.

Work Schedule:  Assignment shall require shifts of no less than eight (8) hours and no more than twelve (12) hours in a 24 hour period.  Shifts shall rotate any time during the twenty-four (24) hour period for a total of 80 hours in a two-week period.  Holidays and weekends shall be included as part of the 80 hour work period and considered regular hours.  Regular, Call Back and/or Overtime shall be determined by the Laboratory Department Supervisor.
The work to be performed includes, but not limited to the following:  
Medical Technologist
1. Reviews Daily Quality Control, Calibrations and Maintenance Logs.
2. Performs Medical Technologist functions such as collect and process laboratory specimens.
3. Performs Medical Technologist functions such as clinical laboratory specimens.
4. Performs Medical Technologist functions such as report laboratory results.
5. Proficient in major areas of the clinical laboratory: clinical chemistry, hematology, serology, urinalysis, and microbiology.
a. Obtains, preserves, and handles bacteriological specimens.
b. Advises physicians, nurses, aides, assistants and patients in this to assure maximum recovery of bacteria assuring better diagnosis, resulting in better patient care.
c. Prepares specimens (wound cultures, sputums, gastric samples, spinal fluids, wines, bronchial washings) for shipment. d. Knows aseptic handling techniques both for the protection of self and contamination of specimen for Blood Cultures by venipuncture, following correct procedure and method as stated in depiutment procedure manual.
e. Operates both binocular microscope and centrifuges without assistance. 
f. Performs skin scrapings and reads wet mount preparations under microscope.
a. Performs routine & special chemistry testing on the Dimension Expand Plus analyzer. AIso performs cardiac on the I Stat Meter.
a. Does venipuncture and capillary punctures for various hematological procedures.
b. Maintains Quality control and Calibration records as prescribed in the procedure manual. Has the knowledge to operate automatic Cell Counter Ruby (Cell Dyn) for WBC, RBC, Hemoglobin, HCT, MCV, MCH, MCHC, and platelet procedures. c, Does Sedimentation rates.
d. Does coagulation tests including prothrombin time & PTT
a. Instructs patients in proper collection, haadling and preservation of urine specimens.
b. Performs routine aaalysis on the Clinitek status analyzer (both macro and micro), examining sedirnent microscopically and reports findings.
a. Performs qualitative screening tests such as serum and urine HCG (pregnancy test), using both positive ard,/or negative controls where applicable.
Cytology & Histology
a. Accepts specimens which are correctly presewed and properly prepared for shipment to reference laboratories.
b. Knowledgeable about the conect pleservatives and levels of concentration.
Computer Data Entry
a. Will perform data entry during the regular hours. Supervisor will provide training on how data entry will be done.

Minimum Qualifications:
License/Certification: ASCP certification or equivalent nationally recognized medical technology certification or categorical certification. Appropriate State License issued by State Board as directed by state law.
Education: Bachelors of Science degree in biological science, chemistry or related field; successful completion of an ASCP or NAACLS approved program.
Life Saving Certifications: Must have current CPR or BLS certification.
Experience: Minimum one year experience within the preceding 3 years.
