Available Position: Phlebotomy Technician

Place of Performance:  Health Services Department located in the Health Services Units at AUSP/SCP Thomson, located at 1100 One Mile Road, Thomson, Illinois 61285. 

Facility Information:  AUSP Thomson is an administrative security U.S. penitentiary with an adjacent minimum security satellite camp.

Work Schedule: The contractor will normally work Monday through Friday (except Federal holidays), normally between the hours of 7:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., with a 30 minute unpaid lunch period. The facility is expected to require an average of six hours per day, 30 hours per week. The Contracting Officer Representative (COR) will determine the actual hours of work.
Contract Duration: this is a 5 years contract, renewed annually.

Description of Responsibilities – Phlebotomy Technician
Maintain a daily specimen collection schedule. Work closely with the medical providers in the efficient scheduling of inmates according to medical need. Ensure documentation to include requisition orders, NMOS orders, laboratory results, critical results, and other diagnostic reports are accurate, retrieve, schedule, collect, manually enter and or scan in the Bureau 's Electronic Medical Record (BEMR) timely. Through applied medical terminology knowledge and in conjunction with in-house providers and consultants orders ensure patients are schedule timely and correctly. Maintain accurate logs of all specimen orders or reports in accordance with Bureau of Prisons policies and Accreditation standards, to include the accurate and consistent inputting or scanning of medical information in the BEMR record. The Contractor will acquire and maintain knowledge of the Health Services policies, processes and Unit procedures necessary to accomplish the mission described herein, ensuring that the Laboratory Procedure Manual is updated accordingly. The Contractor will assist the Health Services Administrator or his/her designee in the coordination of BOP and contract reference lab contact, CLIA re-certification, maintenance of equipment and necessary supplies. Assist the HSA and Clinical Director with writing and implementing policies that deal with the laboratory program.

Education and Qualifications Phlebotomy Technician
The contractor shall provide one (1) Certified Phlebotomist. The phlebotomist must have completed an accredited 12-week Lab Technician Program and/or approved state program, or possess an associate's degree. The contractor must have at least one (1) year experience as a Phlebotomy Technician in a clinical setting. The contractor shall provide written documentation of certification (copy of all diplomas and/or certificates) that permits them to perform the services in this statement of work for the duration of the BPA. The Contractor must be Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certified in accordance to the Heart Association or American Red Cross.
