We are seeking Orthopedic Technicians for an available contract opportunity to provide services for the Luke Air Force Base, AZ


Available Position:  Surgical Technologist to support the 56th Medical Treatment Facility at Luke Air Force Base.

Place of Performance: Luke Air Force Base, 7219 N Litchfield Road, Luke AFB, AZ 85309

Work Schedule:  The MTF hours are 0700-1730 and will not exceed 40 hours per week.


Period of performance: 05/01/2018 through 04/30/2020

Scope of Work: Participates in managing and evaluating surgical patient care activities. Organizes the medical environment, performs and directs support activities in patient care situations, including contingency operations and disasters. Assists professional staff in providing patient care for the surgical patient before, during, and after surgery. Performs scrub and circulating duties in the operating room (OR). Assists with post-anesthesia recovery of patients. Processes, stores, and distributes sterile supplies. Participates in activities related to the OR and Central Sterile Supply Services (CSSS). Performs duties in general and orthopedic surgery.  This is a personal services contract.   The Technician will be accompanying the surgeons to the local area hospitals two to three days a week.  The Technician will be reimbursed for travel to and from the local area hospitals.  He will go to Banner Estrella Surgery Center, Banner Estrella Medical Center and Dignity Health Westgate.

Qualifications
  1. Completion of an accredited surgical service and clinical course. 
  2. Completion of a surgical technologist program recognized and accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES).
  3. Have at least 12 months of experience within the last 36 months as a surgical services technician.
  4. Shall maintain current certification in a basic provider cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) course such as American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) health care provider course or an equivalent course
Knowledge:
Must be knowledgeable in fundamentals of anatomy and physiology; principles of asepsis and sterile techniques; preparing and storing surgical sets and packs, surgical instrumentation, and equipment; OR and anesthesia procedures; pathology as it applies to specimen care and handling; basic microbiology and infection control principles; basic surgical pharmacology; sterilizing and disinfecting procedures; surgical and anesthesia complications and their treatment; hospital and OR environmental hazards and safety procedures; handling and storage of compressed gases; basic medical material procedures; basic medical administrations procedures; legal aspects of preoperative care and medical ethics; roles and qualifications of surgical team members; and basic clinical functions. 

Immunizations:
Before start of work, HCWs shall provide proof of immunization from the following diseases according to Centers for Disease Control (CDC) guidelines: Hepatitis B, influenza, measles, mumps, rubella, and varicella. HCWs shall also provide proof of a negative TB skin test completed within the past 12 months (if positive, proof of negative chest X-ray within the past 12 months) prior to the required start date. In addition, HCWs shall provide proof of TDAP immunization prior to start of work, even if the tetanus booster is not yet due according to CDC guidelines. After start of work, the Government will provide post blood borne exposure protocols according to applicable Air Force Instructions.
HCWs shall be immunized annually with the seasonal influenza vaccine and any other vaccine recommended by the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) of the CDC for HCWs. This vaccine may be provided by the Government, if available, as determined by the MTF. Although this vaccine may be provided by the Government, it may be obtained at other facilities with the cost being borne by the Contractor or the HCW. Unless vaccinated by the Government, the health care worker shall be required to show proof of the vaccination.
