Work to be performed at:  Services will be performed in the Health Services Department of the FCI, 501 Gary Hill Road, Edgefield, SC 29824. 

Facility Information: The Federal Correctional Institution (FCI) in Edgefield, South Carolina, is a medium security facility housing male offenders.  The facility also has an adjacent satellite camp that houses minimum security male offenders. FCI Edgefield is located near the border of South Carolina and Georgia, approximately 25 miles north of Augusta, Georgia.

Work Schedule: These services will be required five days per week, normally consisting of six (6), one (1) hour sessions per day, Monday through Friday, excluding Federal holidays, between the hours of 8:30 and 3:00 p.m., with a thirty (30) minute unpaid lunch period. The Chief Dental Officer will be responsible for defining each weekly schedule.

Period of Performance: April 1, 2018 through September 30, 2022.

Description of Services (includes but it is not limited to):
Chair-side dental assistance in the following dental disciplines: operative, prosthetics, endodontic, periodontics, radiology, and oral surgery.
Sterilization and disinfection techniques of instruments.
Administrative functions, such as, filing, scheduling appointments, and inventorying supplies.
Familiarity with four-handed dentistry with respect to all technical methods and procedures.
Possess a working knowledge of instruments, types of restorative materials and methods used for the purpose of making impressions.
Knowledge of oral and dental anatomy and must be able to chart the intra oral findings.
Assist the staff Dentist with oral surgery, operative procedures, prosthetics, radiology, endodontic, preventive, and clerical duties.
The contractor will work with the Dental Officer or his designee. Dentistry work is generally performed on a daily basis or as the procedure or patient’s need(s) dictate.
Many other assignments are stated in general terms, which require a high level of understanding and initiative to complete the assignment.
The contractor will be required to use his/her training and practical experience, the Dentist’s preferred methods, and current journals or manuals to establish the guidelines by which his/her duties can be accomplished.
The contractor will be required to perform a wide range of intra and extra oral procedures. Those procedures require a broad knowledge of dental anatomy, and require a wide variety of accepted techniques and manual dexterity to accomplish.

Academic, experience, and/or Special Qualifications Required: The contractor must possess specialty training and/or certification as a Dental Assistant. The contractor must provide proof of his/her specialty training or certification. The contractor must also be certified in Basic Cardiac Life Support, and provide a copy of his/her certification.

Uniform Requirements: The contractor must wear appropriate and professional attire at all times. The contractor is prohibited from wearing khaki or green clothing of any type as this is the color clothing the inmate population wears.

Restrictions on Contract Workers: The contractor shall not supervise inmates, supervise Bureau of Prison staff, participate in inmate accountability, requisition, sign for or pick-up supplies, formulate policy and procedures, or attend meetings, staff recalls or staff functions.
